Laurie Anderson’s Handphone Table is maybe one of the finest interactive installations ever made and definitely deserves to be on that list. My project Tequila Sunset is kind of an interactive table too. Cheers.

[…] Over at Pasta and Vinegar they came up with a different list of Interactive tables. Their list is a lot larger, but far from complete. There are even industrial interfaces of this sort for sale, such as the system by Hitatchi that was exhibited at the ZKM exhibit on democracy. Hypertables (interactive or not) are a common fantasme. I’m sure that we’ll be seeing more from them. […]

January 17th, 2006 at 12:14 am

that’s a cool list and i want to add one more item.
okay, here’s the link: http://www.aec.at/en/futurelab/projects_sub.asp?iProjectID=12800
i saw (and played with) it last year at the ars electronica center in linz, austria. the table works as a stage and is part of a mixed reality installation (gulliver’s world) where you can put together different parts of a virtual world, all created instantly. you could mold plastiline and took a 3d-scann, took videos from yourself in a green box, draw simple colored rotating objects, and so on. it was one of the most involving, fun and creative installation i saw (sure, it was meant for kids
it has an own webstite, too. it’s only in german, but worth viewing: http://www.aec.at/gulliverswelt/makingof.htm

Not sure if this is on the list yet. Just saw it on New Scientist:
“The Blue Eye table consists of a glass surface with a camera overhead and a projector and a mirror underneath. A user places an object on the glass surface and presses a button to copy it to the screen beneath. Once imported, the images can then easily be moved, stretched and even animated by a user.”
