Hollywood vs Pirates

I found this graph fascinating, showing how the median days between US release and first leak is increasing. The studios are getting better at controlling piracy (you can’t totally get rid of it anyway).

The graph is for oscars movies only. The full graph is on “a total of 245 films” from previous oscars.
Andy Baio is being careful on the analysis by saying:

“But why the shift this year? Are studios doing a better job protecting screeners and intimidating Academy members? Or was this year’s crop of films too boring for pirates to bother with? I can’t tell if this is a scene-wide trend or localized to the Oscars only. If you have access to historical data tracking scene releases, get in touch.”
