Fair use vs Copyright

Recent studies indicate that the value added to the U.S. economy by copyright industries amounts to $1.3 trillion, said Black. The value added to the U.S. economy by the fair use amounts to $2.2 trillion.

Fair use, described by Wikipedia as “a doctrine in United States copyright law that allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders, such as use for scholarship or review”, is now proven to create more value than the old copyright model. Let’s hope these tangible figures will finally allow the message to go through the legislators and decision makers of this planet.
