Low frequency of posting = more chances of subscription

I just subscribed to a few more feeds after reading a nice post on White African. I noticed one thing, before adding a new RSS feed to my reader, I check the frequency to which the author is posting. The less frequently the authors writes, the more likely I am to subscribe.

I already get hundreds of updates a day, I still want to open up a bit but my margin for adding more information is thin. Is writing a lot counterproductive in terms of building an audience? I think so.

I agree, and would add meaningful, with the right frequency. I have encountered good blogs, that I have unsubscribed to, because I cannot handle 12 + posts per day. Similarly, I am actively trying to limit myself to less frequent more meaty posts on my own blog. Short frequent stuff should be in Twitter.

Yep, been thinking this for a while. I have a strategy of going through my rss feeds in google reader and any that have “100+” i tend to put off reading, and sometimes just delete them altogether. Others that have a couple of new feeds per day only I can manage quite nicely and do read.
The other thing that keeps me reading is if you can see all of the feed in the reader. Partial feeds I tend to ignore too. But as you can see, having the full feed available doesn’t stop someone coming to the web site!

True, I really think that partial feeds are horrible. People come to the site anyway, and the idea is not to rude them into coming to the site (which usually ends up driving them away)
