Where is the Swiss web 2.0

Techcrunch en FrançaisMy buddy Ouriel Ohayon of Techcrunch France kindly asked me to write an article about the Swiss web 2.0. Tough task, as the legendary Swiss discretion combined with the fact that this country is indeed three (and a half) distinct cultural regions. But I am a man of challenge and I have a secret weapon: you my dear readers.

So if you know some good hot Swiss web projects who deserve TechCrunch exposure, please let me know using the comments below or by email at laurent@liftlab.com.

We had already given some kind of snapshot to Ouriel via this feed https://www.xing.com/app/forum?op=showarticles&id=3705448&articleid=3705448 and I know that quite a few projects are under development (not only professionweb :D)…but still confidential.
I suggest you also ask to the group via XIng ;-)

http://fairtilizer.com/ and http://www.vizta.com/ could be added probably to this list as well as http://www.venyo.org/

It might look like little but there are mostly quality projects. Slow and beautiful…swiss touch ;-)

According to wikipedia’s definition of web 2.0:
“a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users.”.

As the article does not really defines these requirements, hundreds of swiss made web services might be included in the list.

My guess, however, is that the decision isn’t about the service quality itself but rather about who runs it (literally, built by the friend of a friend’s sphere)… I look then forward to reading how many projects will be “selected” for representing Switzerland web 2.0 projects.

Anyway, this comment would be useless without any contribution to the question, so here are some swiss french speaking blogging platforms:

Hey, my small Geneva-based company ( kipubli.com ) runs http://unblog.fr (one of the largest french-speaking blog communities) and provides white-branded communities. A swiss platform is to come soon along with many more surprises :).

  13. Ellen Wallace Says:

My bailiwick is English-speaking and I come up with only 2:

GenevaOnline (www.genevaonline.ch, about to change to www.glocals.ch) is worth mentioning, as their growth has been pretty strong. Social network, started by 2 brothers, now has 11,000+ members and they have just started spin-offs in Lausanne and Zurich at members’ requests. They have all the usual web2 problems of how to make money - so far they still aren’t taking any salary, after 3+ years, but they are getting enough sponsorship money to cover site costs and drive more traffic, so … we’ll see. I’ve just interviewed them, will run the article today or tomorrow. They are changing their name to Glocals because of the expansion to other cities. It’s hugely popular with Geneva’s young English-speaking crowd.

GenevaLunch (www.genevalunch.com) qualifies, to my mind, although we’re not typical web 2.0 perhaps. But we do have about 30 people who contribute photos (most via a “genevalunch” tag on flickr, others directly), text (directly) and occasionally other things. In April we created GL community, a second but interwoven site, to be able to build this into a community blogging center, open by invitation. We’re starting to build up a group of “Voices from the community,” people from the community who have expertise to share. The first ones start in September, a group of four people who will contribute a weekly post (or more often) on managing your carbon footprint if you live in the Lake Geneva area. We’re developing two semi-business services, details not yet for publication, to make it much easier for two groups of people in the community to hook up with each other.

A more traditional web sites that has started to use forums, a cautious move into web 2.0:
Angloinfo Geneva is part of a French-based franchise, but their forums are local and used by newcomers.
