TV free activity
Just like trains were one of the few offline environments remaining, computers offered a rare TV-less environment.
Computer users had to deal with the interruptions of emails and instant messaging, and with the attraction power of unlimited information at their fingertips. But NOT with the Jerry Springer show and car ads.
Two players are now compromising this relative peace: Zattoo on mac, TVUplayer on PC. The TV that was in the background of your living room is now in the background of your computer desktop. And when the champion league is being played it is really hard to resist if you are stuck late at night in the office.
TV is finally coming to the computer, and on a day Swisscom released 100+ channels via ADSL I am still pondering whether it is a good or a bad thing for my productivity ;-)

Laurent, I don’t mean to negatively affect your productivity ;-) but Zattoo is actually available for both Mac and Windows.
Disclosure: I work for Zattoo, where I’m in charge of content and marketing.

Watching the latest US TV series, only several hours after their broadcast, have become my great temptation, posted on dailymotion.com. So TV is definitely now part of my Mac world – no longer just the Internet. Une addiction de plus :-)

btw, what’s the business model behind Zattoo, MaxTV and TVUplayer? Replace the ads with some more targeted stuff? Resell usage statistics?
I’m really puzzled on this, knowing how expensive it must be to stream all that stuff…
