Web sales about to surpass catalogue sales

We just reached a turning point. The Journal du Net is reporting on a study by Abacus which found that the web now represents 38% of home shopping, more than the total of telephone sales.

The internet veteran in me is happy to see that electronic retailing can no longer be considered like a costly platform for the ultra smart fringe of a company’s customers.

The study (that I could not find on Abacus’ web site) points to three factors for the increase in web sales: better ease of use, better commercial practices and better interactivity. Lesson for all companies: invest wisely, and information architects and designers might be more important than superb software and hardware.
