The NYT has a July 4 (hurry up if you want to read it) article on how small companies are starting to use blogs to develop their business. Blogs generate trafic but no clear return on investment:

Blogs humanize…

It lets us pull back the curtain and show how we’re a company of hobbyists who love participating in the things they’re buyers for,” he said. “It humanizes us.

generate trafic…

Executives at Bluefly.com credit their blog with bringing in new customers.

but take people away from the site…

Our blog people want the links on our site, but our brand people say it’ll take people off the site

and give immeasurable return on investment:

Mr. Gniwisch said the blogs attracted “thousands of visitors” a week, but the effect on sales was unclear

For me the miracle in not in the blogs itself. It’s in being able to use new technologies to your advantage. For the moment blogs are one of the best ways to not only get noticed but also be closer to your clients.

When everyone comes to blogging the innovators will be into other forms of communication or will be able to improve blogs into another level.

    Don’t you think so?

    Take care,

    Hi André :-)
for sure blogs are no miracle. It’s funny to see another bubble forming here. We hear Blogs will change our businesses, so everybody will blog then come to realize it’s not blogs that change things, it’s simply being ahead of the curve as you say.
